What site would you guys look on for 80s BMWs? Is craigslist popular over there, or will I be missing most of what’s for sale if that’s where I’m looking? I’ve been looking into importing an E28 or an early model E30, but Japan isn’t the place to look of those unfortunately, I don’t want RHD. I guess by looking into, I mean thinking about. I don’t even know how much shipping would be, and unfortunately there aren’t companies that regularly import from Europe like they do from Japan.

I know I’m also posting about a Beetle and old American things, but I badly want an old BMW again, I just don’t know how much it would realistically be. I’m hoping it wouldn’t be more expensive than finding a good one locally and swapping the bumpers, because that is not a small or cheap job.

Mobile.de, autoscout24 and carandclassic.co.uk (search for non-UK). Or the local forums.

Thanks, I didn’t even know you could specify non-UK in carandclassic

Craigslist is virtually unknown. Try mobile.de, ebay Kleinanzeigen and autoscout24.

I’m in the UK so with you not wanting RHD I can’t really offer advice (Unless you need a parts car since our used cars are substantially cheaper due to lack of export market) but I will say that Craigslist is less than useless over here. Its sole purpose is to offer handjobs in dark rooms. You’re probably want to look at purpose made classic car websites over general used car sales.

Happy hunting! You can select ‘international’ for region.

Yeah, if I was getting a LandCruiser or something else with a high driving position, I’d be okay with RHD, but in something low I wouldn’t want to deal with that. Oh geez, I’ll steer clear of that haha, thanks

-says Craigslist is useless

-Says it’s good for getting handjobs in dark rooms.

I’m confused by these two statements.

Ye’, if you look to the left of centre there is, ‘top country links’, ‘category link’, ‘advert type links’ and then ‘UK region links’.

Import costs will be a few grand and some hours of work. A lot of Euro cars in Japan, especially of this age, are LHD, so keep looking there too.

A few grand is disappointing, but that makes sense. Really? I guess I will have to look more. I’ve seen a couple, but I didn’t think there were many at all, cool

Mobile.de is good for hours of trawling.

I look at old MBs on goo net all the time, lots of LHD MBs anyway, I have to imagine BMW shouldn’t be different.

I think shipping alone is about 2K+, then all of the paperwork and taxes.

There’s a few. You’ve seen Mobile.de. Try autoscout24 as well. Autotrader has local sites (.nl for the Netherlands, .de for Germany, .co.uk for England, etc.). In France I’d check out Leboncoin.fr (search categories “Voitures”/”Toute la France”), in Belgium kapaza.be and in the Netherlands marktplaats.nl as well. Have fun! And if you need help just shoot!

Yeah, you’ll spend money on a conversion or money to import a car. the pro to the latter is that you’ll have a cool Euro spec car. The only alternative is to find an existing Euro car already on this side of the pond, but as you know, they aren’t exactly common.

Yeah, I think I’m leaning towards importing. I’m starting to find some that are cheap enough, while still being in good shape, that it would be doable

Yep. If you have the funds, the import might be the better deal, as you’d get more for your money - an entire Euro car.
